AMB is committed to digital inclusion. We believe every person — regardless of ability — deserves equal access to information about our programs, mission, and community resources.

1. Our Commitment

The Association of Midnight Basketball ("AMB") is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to people with disabilities. We believe that access to information about our programs and mission is a right — not a privilege — and we strive to remove barriers that may prevent any individual from fully engaging with our digital content.

Our commitment to accessibility is consistent with AMB's core values of equity, inclusion, and community service. Just as we work to remove barriers for youth in our communities through our programs, we work to remove barriers to information on our digital platforms.

We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our website in accordance with evolving standards and best practices. This is an ongoing effort, and we welcome your feedback to help us improve.

2. Accessibility Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including:

Perceivable

Information and interface components are presentable in ways all users can perceive — including text alternatives for non-text content and captions for multimedia.

Operable

All functionality is available from a keyboard. Users have sufficient time to read and use content, and navigation is consistent and predictable.

Understandable

Text is readable and understandable. Content appears and operates in predictable ways, and users receive help avoiding and correcting mistakes.

Robust

Content is compatible with current and future assistive technologies, ensuring reliable interpretation by a wide variety of user agents.

We also comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and California Government Code Section 11135 where applicable to our publicly funded programs and digital platforms.

3. Accessibility Features

Our website includes the following accessibility features:

  • Semantic HTML: Proper use of headings, landmarks, lists, and form labels to support screen readers and other assistive technologies
  • Keyboard Navigation: Full keyboard accessibility for menus, forms, buttons, and interactive elements
  • Alt Text: Descriptive alternative text for all meaningful images
  • Color Contrast: Text and UI elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio requirements
  • Responsive Design: Content is fully accessible across all devices and screen sizes, including mobile phones and tablets
  • Focus Indicators: Visible focus outlines on all interactive elements for keyboard users
  • ARIA Labels: Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) attributes used where appropriate to enhance screen reader support
  • Readable Typography: Clear, legible fonts with sufficient size and line spacing
  • Form Accessibility: All forms include properly associated labels and error messages
  • Skip Navigation: Skip-to-content links to bypass repetitive navigation blocks
  • No Flashing Content: We avoid content that flashes more than 3 times per second to prevent seizure risks
  • Language Declaration: Page language is declared in HTML for accurate screen reader pronunciation

4. Assistive Technologies

Our website is designed and tested to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

Technology Examples Support Level
Screen Readers NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android) Supported
Voice Control Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control (macOS/iOS) Supported
Keyboard-Only Navigation Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys Supported
Browser Zoom Up to 200% zoom without loss of content or functionality Supported
High Contrast Mode Windows High Contrast, macOS Increase Contrast Partial

5. Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, we are aware of some areas that may not yet fully meet the standard. We are actively working to address these:

  • PDF Documents: Some older PDF documents linked from our site (such as the 2025 Sponsorship Deck) may not be fully tagged or screen-reader accessible. We are working to provide accessible HTML alternatives.
  • Third-Party Embedded Content: Embedded content from third-party providers (such as PayPal donation buttons or social media widgets) may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control.
  • Some Legacy Pages: Older content pages may have limited ARIA support or color contrast. These are being reviewed and updated on a rolling basis.
  • Complex Data Tables: Some tables in Chapter Portal resources may need improved header associations for screen readers.
Ongoing Improvement

We conduct regular accessibility audits and address identified issues in order of impact. If you encounter a specific barrier, please tell us — it helps us prioritize our work.

6. Feedback & Contact

We welcome and value feedback about the accessibility of our website. If you experience barriers to accessing any part of our content, or if you have suggestions for improvement, please contact us using the information below.

When reporting an accessibility issue, it is helpful to include:

  • The URL of the page where you experienced the issue
  • The nature of the barrier or difficulty

No Retaliation Policy

AMB will not retaliate against, intimidate, or discriminate against any person for requesting an accommodation or filing an accessibility complaint.

8. Third-Party Content

Our website links to and embeds content from third-party providers, including PayPal, social media platforms, and partner organization websites. These third-party services have their own accessibility standards and practices.

While we encourage our partners to maintain accessible content, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third-party platforms or content. For accessibility assistance with third-party services, please refer to those organizations directly:

  • PayPal: paypal.com Accessibility
  • Facebook: facebook.com/accessibility
  • YouTube: YouTube Accessibility

9. Enforcement & Formal Complaints

If you are not satisfied with AMB's response to your accessibility concern, you have the right to file a formal complaint with the following agencies:

  • U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) — ADA complaints: ada.gov/filing_complaint.htm
  • U.S. Access Board: access-board.gov
  • California Department of Rehabilitation: dor.ca.gov

However, we strongly encourage you to contact us directly first. Most accessibility issues can be resolved quickly once we are made aware of them, and we are committed to working cooperatively and in good faith.

10. Updates to This Statement

This Accessibility Statement is reviewed and updated annually, or whenever significant changes are made to our website. Updates are also made in response to user feedback and completed accessibility audits.
